You know what makes for riveting Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER? John and Jerry sitting around talking about the business side of comics. Cullen is going to be kicking himself for missing out on this show!
We start out by discussing a recent article from Publisher’s Weekly, on the Four Risk Factors Facing the Comics Industry in 2015. While the author makes some general assumptions, we do our best to poke some holes in his points. It’s all stuff to consider, but don’t take EVERYTHING you read as absolute truth. Unless you read about it here first!
From there, the conversation wanders to a variety of topics, primarily around the business of comic book movies. We do take a look at the shake-ups with the org charts at Marvel Entertainment. Let’s just say it’s good to be Kevin Feige right about now. Feige now reports directly to the Disney chairman so one can hope that we are one step closer to finally seeing a Marvel Team-Up movie with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Darth Vader. Laugh now, but pretty soon, you’ll want to see that team-up just as much as we do! That led into a discussion about director Steven Spielberg’s comments that the super-hero movies will soon go the way of the Western. Yeah, about that, it’s not going to happen right away, especially if the aforementioned Mr. Feige has anything to say about it. Finally, Jerry drew the short straw and went to see Fantastic Four on behalf of the podcast. Not the worst Fantastic Four movie he’s ever seen, but the ending to this one just crashed and burned.
Jerry and John make some references to our good friend, Todd Green. We are both in agreement that he would make a pretty good bounty hunter. He’s got the facial hair, the attitude, and his U.S. military training! What more does a bounty hunter need? At some point, we will bring Todd on a show for the listeners to experience. Speaking of bounty hunters, Jerry asks John one of the questions from our Fan Favorite Feud surveys. The question is to name your Favorite Bounty Hunter. John tries to name the top six responses. Play along at home and see how many you get right.
We want to give a shout-out to another one of our good friend, Hillary Lewis. You will find Hillary (and her friends) down at Dragon*Con in Atlanta this weekend. Hillary will be buzzing around some of the weekend in her Wasp costume. Mind you, we are both friends and fans of Hillary and her outfits, but this Wasp costume is just incredible. Check out Hillary’s Super Sirens page for more photos of the various costumes she has made.
John has two reviews of recent reads this week: Long Walk to Valhalla, by Adam Smith & Matt Fox; and Solitary, by C.W. Cooke & Nando Souzamatto. Hmmm, maybe we should try to get one of these guys in the studio sometime soon? Anyway, Jerry did not bring in any books to review this week, as he finds himself stuck in DC Comics’ version of the Neverending Story, otherwise known as Showcase Presents the Martian Manhunter Vol. 2.
