WCPE Episode 098 – For May 11, 2016 – FCBD and Captain America: Civil War

captain-america-civil-war-posterWe are just one week away from Planet Comicon in Kansas City! Even though we should be prepping for our panels or getting things ready to go for the Hero Initiative table, we still got together this week to record a podcast. Nope, no time off for us. The show must go on!

We start out with a recap of our Free Comic Book Day experiences. Cullen spent some time at the Things From Another World (TFAW) in Beaverton, OR, where he got to hang out with comic creators Steve Lieber and Chris Roberson. Meanwhile, Jerry and John spent the day at Clint’s Comics in Kansas City. camped out once again right by the free comic boxes. If you wanted your free books, you had to talk to us and take our survey.

Jerry did get the chance to grab writer Ed Lavallee and do a quick interview. Ed has a Kickstarter project going on right now to promote his comic, Pop Star Assassin. This book takes all of the greatest things from the 1970s and brings it all together in a four-color masterpiece. You need to read this book and you need to support this project. As we prepare to post this podcast, the Kickstarter campaign is close to 50% of its goal. So let’s help Ed and artist Marcelo Basile finish this book. In the word’s of the almighty King, “Thank you, thank you very much!”

Throughout the day at both stores, the buzz in the stores was all about Captain America: Civil War, the latest film from Marvel Studios. Jerry and John both had a chance to see this last weekend, and we offer up our opinions on the movie. We do our best to keep our conversation spoiler-free, so sit back and give us a listen as we discuss what may be the most thought-provoking film in the MCU. But we want to know what you thought of the movie. Be sure to drop us a note and let us know if you supported Steve Rogers or Tony Stank!

Finally, let’s give you another reminder of our schedule for Planet Comicon. We will be working the Hero Initiative table (#428), where we will have artist Karl Moline doing sketches for a donation. But we will also be busy with our panels as you can see by the schedule below.
