It’s been a big week here at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! B – I – G WEEK! Seriously, I don’t know how we managed to get all of this comic talk into just one podcast.
For starters, Faith #2 came out on Wednesday. As you know by now, Faith is the first WCPE Book-of-the-Year, and we really hope that this book goes well beyond the scheduled four issues – take that as a strong hint if you are reading this, Valiant!! To help with our Faith discussion this week, we brought in the writer of the title, Jody Houser. She was so much fun to talk with about Faith! We love what she has done with the character so far, and are anxiously awaiting the next two issues (or more)! If this is the first time you have read a book from Jody, we strongly recommend you take a look at her brilliant web comic, Cupcake POW!
As if Faith talk was not enough, John and Jerry recount their time at the Empower Comic Con (Hint, John is still all a-glow over his panel with Lindsay Wagner!). Meanwhile, Cullen got to pal around with some of our favorite people in comics, like Gail Simone, Sam Humphries, Tyler Crook, Cullen Bunn, and Mark Waid. He even got to drive around legendary Batman-writer Denny O’Neil, who was in Portland for the Wizard World show as a special guest of the Hero Initiative!
Now here’s a little-known fact about the WCPE guys. We all played on a softball team in a parks & rec league years ago. Our team name was That Other Team. (“Hey, who are we playing tonight? That other team….”) Being completely honest, we weren’t very good, as if that comes as a big surprise to anyone listening to the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!
Anyway, we share this to help set up the fact that DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio lobbed a perfect softball over the plate to everyone over the weekend, and we sure as heck are going to swing at it. DiDio claims that there will be a moment in the upcoming Rebirth event that will be the most controversial scene in the history of DC Comics. Well, we can’t let that one go by us. We do our best to remind him of some of DC’s controversial moments, trying only to remind Dan that the bar has been set very high. We wrap it up with some speculation as to what could be more controversial than the list we made.
As a reminder, Jerry will be at the Little Apple Comic Con tomorrow in Manhattan, KS. Stop by and see Jerry while attending a fun family-friendly show.
As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, and we hope you enjoy the show.
