On Friday at San Diego Comic Con, John had the chance to sit down with Dana Simpson at the GoComics booth. Dana is a cartoonist most well known as the creator of the syndicated comic strip Phoebe and her Unicorn (originally titled Heavenly Nostrils). The strip has been collected into two volumes so far, Phoebe and Her Unicorn and Unicorn on a Roll.
My daughter Miranda and I thoroughly enjoyed Unicorn on a Roll (they had sold out of Phoebe and her Unicorn at SDCC). The strip is often compared to Calvin and Hobbes with the differences that the main character is a girl and the unicorn (named Marigold Heavenly Nostrils) is real within the story. The comics are light-hearted with just enough snark (generally from Marigold) to appeal to a wider age range.
