Interview with Cartoonist Dana Simpson – San Diego Comic Con 2015

On Friday at San Diego Comic Con, John had the chance to sit down with Dana Simpson at the GoComics booth. Dana is a cartoonist most well known as the creator of the syndicated comic strip Phoebe and her Unicorn (originally titled Heavenly Nostrils). The strip has been collected into two volumes so far, Phoebe and Her Unicorn and Unicorn on a Roll.

My daughter Miranda and I thoroughly enjoyed Unicorn on a Roll (they had sold out of Phoebe and her Unicorn at SDCC). The strip is often compared to Calvin and Hobbes with the differences that the main character is a girl and the unicorn (named Marigold Heavenly Nostrils) is real within the story. The comics are light-hearted with just enough snark (generally from Marigold) to appeal to a wider age range.

Listen below for our full discussion with Dana.

Below you can see the covers from the first two collections from Phoebe and Her Unicorn.

Thanks to Dana for spending some time with the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!  We can’t wait for even more volumes of Phoebe and Her Unicorn and hopefully (fingers crossed), Phoebe and Marigold will start appearing in our local paper!
