I’ve got my DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince tape playing Summertime in the background and I have picked a subtle mix for your consideration. While I could never take my comics poolside, (unless of course I had purchased a TPB with the specific purpose of it being a pool TPB and would be ok with it getting wet. But who would be that ridiculous?<raises hand>), I do believe these selections are best paired with a summer-y beverage and a couple of hours of quiet time inside. If you do go out, don’t forget to always wear at LEAST 50 SPF! Exposure to cosmic rays won’t give you powers, but they may give you cancer!

Star Wars #6 (3.99, Marvel) Luke Skywalker against Boba Fett. This is Cassaday’s last issue before a guest artist next month and Stuart Immonen comes on board as the regular artist with issue number eight. Aaron, Cassaday, and Martin 12+

Secret Wars #3 (4.99, Marvel) I’m not even thinking about being cautious with my entertainment dollars with this pick! I know a lot people were disappointed with the first issue because it didn’t fully explain every single thing happening in a typical format with context and full backstories, but the art has been amazing even if you don’t think the story has been compelling or understandable. Hopefully the doubters started coming around with the revelations of some of the high level rules of Battleworld from last issue because in this issue there is a private conversation held between Doom and Strange which reveals a much deeper level to their relationship and the origins of the newly formed planet. Hickman, Ribic, Svorcina 12+

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6 (3.99, Marvel) I’m putting this book on the list again because I know you aren’t reading it yet, and I cry for you at night because of it. If you’ve seen any of my previous recommendations for LumberJanes, or Howtoons, you know I’m always on the lookout for books I can share with my children. USG is a book I laugh out loud at while reading it to my four year old, Lillian Frances. This month you are going to get a new collector card for the villain Hippo the Hippo and meet the Chipmunk Hunk. Chutty Chik Chuk! North, Henderson, Renzi 12+

Death Vigil #7 (3.99, Image) After a five month break Stjepan Sejic is back with more unbelievably cool art and stories about the Vigil. This month Bernie finds herself sealed off from her friends, Sam is lying around dying again, and the rest of the team is looking for the necromancer base! Seriously, go check out the free previews for this book and look at Sejic’s art because It’s worth the price of the book alone. He also writes and colors the entire series.  Stjepan Sejic 17+
