Just one more day, friends. Just one more day until we reach New Comic Book Day! Every Wednesday is like a mini-Christmas morning in comic book stores near and far. I’ve gone through the list and found four books that I will be picking up on May 20. Truthfully I will probably pick up more than four, but we like to keep this feature manageable week in and week out.

Speaking of this feature, faithful followers may have noticed that I picked the four books last week too. You’re asking yourself, “Jerry, why are we so lucky to get your picks two weeks in a row?” You want to know why I am doing this on back-to-back weeks? BECAUSE I LOVE COMIC BOOKS!!! ‘Nuff said, friends, let’s talk about some comics.

A-Force #1 ($3.99, Marvel Comics): Yes, this may be part of the Secret Wars/Battleworlds event going on at Marvel. This should be on the top of the list for everyone reading comics. A-Force gives us an all-female member Avengers squad. Marvel gave us an all-female X-Men team a few years ago, so why not the Avengers too. Superstar writer G. Willow Wilson takes on the challenge of writing the first adventures of a testosterone-free team of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Add in the art talents of Jorge Molina, and this should be a must-buy for everyone this week.

Donald Duck #1 ($3.99, IDW): Call it a nostalgia pick, but I am excited about IDW being the new home of Disney Comics. IDW is releasing a new Disney title for the next few months. Following the big debut of Uncle Scrooge last month, this month we get Donald Duck. Let’s be honest: Everyone loves Donal Duck. Sure, Mickey Mouse was the star, but Donald Duck got all of the best laughs. The stories are written and drawn by Romano Scarpa, no stranger to the Disney comics line. The art and colors look spectacular on the paper IDW uses on their books. You are doing yourself a disfavor if you don’t at least pick this one up and flip through it.

Star Wars #5 ($3.99, Marvel Comics): I feel like my picks this week are no-brainers. Star Wars #5 is the most obvious of the no-brainer picks. Jason Aaron has a solid command of our favorite band of rebels. (If you secretly root for the Empire, then you can refer to them as the rebel scum.) John Cassaday continues to excel with the character likeness of Luke, Leia, Han, and the others. In this issue, Luke Skywalker finds himself returning to the planet that is farthest from the bright center of the universe. Yes, he does return to Tatooine, the place we never expected him to re-visit until at least Episode VI. Meanwhile, Han and Leia are off on a secret mission. I’ll let you insert your own joke here. Come on, you know you want to read this. Pick it up!

Velvet TPB Vol. #2 ($14.99, Image Comics): So we are all big fans of the Velvet title by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting. Way back in Episode 020, I did a review of Velvet Vol. #1. LOVED IT! Fast forward to March of this year, and Cullen did a 60 Second Review of the first Velvet collection. Guess what? HE LOVED IT! Seriously people, buy this book. It’s a 1970s espionage thriller with the title character, Velvet Templeton, is equal parts James Bond and Modesty Blaise. If you like the Brubaker-Epting run on Captain America, then you will love this book.

As great as my picks are, there are a lot of other good books that might be worth picking up. In no particular order, look for:

• Master of Kung Fu #1
• Convergence #7
• Mind MGMT #33
• Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency #1
