Just when you think we couldn’t possibly compare to last week’s episode, we go all out to deliver a top-notch podcast this week. Of course, we have to give most, if not all, of the credit to our guest this week, writer/artist/inker Ande Parks.
Ande has become a familiar name to anyone reading comics over the last 20 years, with books published at DC, Oni, Marvel, Dynamite, Dark Horse, and more. Most famously partnered with writer/artist Phil Hester, the duo helped bring back Green Arrow from the grave in 2001. That started a 45-issue run on the title that had Hester & Parks working with a trio of “celebrity” writers — Kevin Smith, Brad Meltzer, and Judd Winick.
Having donned his writer’s fedora the last couple of years, Ande has been working on a novel, writing licensed books, and finally getting to see an original graphic novel, Ciudad, finally make it into print. Ciudad was co-written by Ande and the Russo brothers (Joe and Anthony) of Captain America: Winter Soldier fame.
This podcast has a little bit of everything – Ande shares his suggestions for inking made easy; we recall a funny story (to us at least) about our friend’s adventures in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s; we swap stories about meeting our favorite comic creator heroes (and villains!); and we wrap things up in time to get an order placed before the kitchen closed. (Big thanks to Dub V’s Bar & Deli in Olathe, KS, for giving us a place to meet and keeping our drinks filled.)
On with the show, this is it! We are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, and we hope you enjoy the show!
