On Friday at Planet Comicon 2017, I had the pleasure of moderating a panel full of incredibly talented writers. I had met and interacted with each of the panelists at earlier times with one exception – Carole Barrowman.
When you moderate a panel, you never know exactly what you’re going to get. Sometimes the panelists can be quiet or brash, funny or sullen, interactive or just there. Because Carole was an unknown entity to me, I wondered how things would go. That lasted until about 5 seconds after she started talking. I found her to be as intelligent, witty, and engaging as you could possibly want in a panelist and it made my job incredibly easy.
We struck up a conversation on the way from the panel back to her table and I found that this wasn’t just a persona for the stage. She was every bit as interesting as we walked and spoke as she was earlier and she kindly offered to let me interview her for the podcast. She did not have to offer twice.
On Sunday morning, I was able to have a wonderful conversation with Carole as she was very generous with her time. We discussed the writing she has done with the Hollow Earth trilogy, as well as the comics she has written about Captain Jack from Torchwood and Malcolm Merlyn from DC Comics. Obviously these last two were based on characters portrayed by her brother, fan favorite actor John Barrowman.
Please enjoy the interview and while you listen, be sure to head over to www.carolebarrowman.com and find out more about her and her works as well.
If you liked the interview, I encourage you to check out our interviews page. Getting to talk to creative people that do amazing things is one of the best parts of the podcast! Thanks for listening to the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!
