February 1, 2017, marks the 25th Anniversary of the founding of Image Comics. On that day in 1992, a group of young artists that had been dominating the comics for the last half-decade decided to found their own company that would be creator-focused. These guys – Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Erik Larsen, Marc Silvestri, Jim Valentino, and Whilce Portacio – would turn the industry around with their business model, making everyone re-think how comics should be created.
So here we are 25 years later and Image has never been stronger. Having firmly cemented itself as the #3 publisher, it’s quality of books rivals that of either of the big two publishers. Image Comics has some of the best books on the shelves, crossing all genres of story-telling.
Cullen, John, and Jerry sit down to share our memories of Image from the early days through today. Our favorite projects and titles, our hidden gems, and why Image remains so important to the entire industry.
