Four Comics I Want for NCBD: 2016/05/18

FCIW 20160518

This has been an insanely busy week already, and it’s only Tuesday morning. Yikes! We’ve got Planet Comicon starting on Friday, where the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! will be hosting panels and raising funds for the Hero Initiative. You can find one or all of us at booth #428.

But even with all of the packing and planning and podcasting going on this week, we still need to make time to stop by the comic shop tomorrow for New Comic Book Day! Lots of great books this week to choose from, and that is without even looking at the list of releases from Marvel and DC. Take a look at my picks for Four Comics I Want, and let us know what you will be getting this week.

Mae #1 ($3.99, Dark Horse Comics): Seriously, this book has been on my pull list since I saw the creator of the book: Gene Ha! Ever since Top 10, I have been a big fan of Ha’s work, and will gladly pick this book up sight unseen. The story is very intriguing, almost like a reverse version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Mae’s sister Abbie has been living in a fantasy world having grand adventures. But she returned home, and no one quite believes Abbie. At least not until the monsters and creatures started crossing over into our world. In other words, TAKE. MY. MONEY NOW!

Jughead #6 ($3.99, Archie Comics): Finally, the big showdown between Jughead and Principal Stanger reaches it’s conclusion. One man wins and one man walks away. Seeing that issues #7 and #8 have already been solicited, I’m going to be betting that Jughead comes out of this the victor!. Writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Erica Henderson continue to make this a top book month after month after month. Why aren’t you buying this yet?

Dept. H #2 ($3.99, Dark Horse Comics): OMG, this is just crazy. When Dark Horse first announced Dept. H from Matt and Sharlene Kindt, my plan was to just wait and pick up the collected editions, much like DHC did with Kindt’s Mind MGMT. However, the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray. Case in point, I borrowed John’s copy to issue #1, and this book is amazing. I don’t know if I can wait the 8-9 months until the first collection is released. Looks like I am adding another book to my pull list this week. Damn you, Matt Kindt! Stop taking my money like this with your awesome books. I already am giving some of my money to Gene and Chip and Erica this week. We’re going to have words at Planet Comicon this weekend!

The Beauty #7 ($3.99, Image Comics): A new story arc starts up in the Beauty universe, where people are getting fired up over the latest STD. The first storyline focused on the detectives looking to track down the cause and cure for the Beauty STD. With the new storyline, it focuses on a criminal looking to use his Beauty status for financial gain. Jeremy and Jason continue to plot out the story, but are joined by artist Mike Huddleston with this issue.
