Last Saturday, Jerry traveled to Manhattan, KS, for the inaugural Little Apple Comic Con. The turnout was incredible, far exceeding the expectations going into the show. A big round of kudos to the Con organizers, Ali and Josh Smith, for putting on an incredible convention with their first attempt.
Now, during the course of the day, Jerry got to host two panels at the con. Thankfully, he brought along the microphones and recorded some interesting conversations.
The first panel took a look at Kickstarting Comics – using the crowdsourcing site to fund your comic book project. Seated on the panel were the creative brain-trust behind the successful Bad Karma project from 2013. Alex Grecian, Jeremy Haun, B. Clay Moore, and Seth Peck shared their thoughts on what worked with their project, the challenges of keeping the costs in line, and lessons learned for their future projects.
The second panel featured Artists of the Midwest. With a mix of up-and-coming talent with industry veterans, the panel shared stories about their influences, their tools, and their collective dislike of drawing horses. Big thanks to Erica Batton, Jeremy Haun, Melvin Penner, and Greg Smallwood for sharing their thoughts on comic art.
For those that were tuning in this week for a big interview, be patient. We had to change our schedule around at the last minute, but you will still get that interview later this month!
