The guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! are back in the studio this week with an interview with one of our favorite Kansas City creators, C.W. Cooke. Accompanied by his wife Kate, CW met with John and Jerry to talk about Solitary, the Kickstarter campaign, and his upcoming work for Devil’s Due Publishing.
Our faithful listeners may recall that we did a short interview with CW at the Omaha Comic Con earlier this summer. We were very grateful to get some time with him then. But we’ve been working for months to find time to get him into the studio with us for a full-blown interview. So here we go!
First up was our discussion around Solitary, a 4-issue miniseries from Devil’s Due Publishing with one of the greatest elevator pitches of all time: “Imagine Superman sitting on the Green Mile.” CW ran a successful Kickstarter to set up support for the initial issue, which more than doubled the target goal. If you have missed the issues, a trade paperback collecting the series was recently released. If you enjoyed this series, look for Solitary 2.0, which will be a digital-first release from Devil’s Due later this fall.
We got into CW’s early years in comics, going from fanboy to aspiring writer to published author. We name drop a couple of people along the way, primarily good friend of the show Ande Parks. We also talk about the work that goes into working a table or booth at a convention — that oft-told saying, “You only get one chance to make a good impression” applies to comic cons, too! We take a look ahead at some upcoming projects from CW, including some teases about a new book with Project-Nerd Publishing. We conclude the show with a couple of games, Higher or Lower and Fan Favorite Feud
If you need more info on CW, we suggest starting with his Facebook page for Solitary. But odds are, if you do a quick search for CW Cooke online, you’ll find him within two clicks. (Note: If you find Charles CW Cooke, hit the Back button a couple of times. Trust us!)
