It is Tuesday, the Christmas Eve of the comic book week, and all those shiny covers promise lots of goodies inside for all the good boys and girls around the world! Here are four goodies that each of you can go out and unwrap this week. Sitting on a fat man’s lap is entirely optional.

Bloodshot Reborn #1 ($3.99, Valiant Entertainment): Valiant is a publisher that is red hot right now. They have top notch creators putting out a tightly held together universe of books and they recently announced a 9-figure deal for financing of properties for movies, television and other licensing. That is a lot of cabbage. One of the first properties that will be turned into a movie is Bloodshot and this month gives you a chance to get on board with this character. Bloodshot’s nanites give him enhanced strength, speed, and healing but they have also made him a living weapon. This issue starts a new story in which Bloodshot is looking to leave his old life behind. Unsurprisingly, that doesn’t work out. This book is written by superstar Jeff Lemire with art from Mico Suayan. Want to be in the know on this character when those first trailers come out? Go get this book. Here is an unlettered preview to give you a taste of what is coming your way.

Archie vs. Predator #1 of 4 ($3.99, Dark Horse Comics): What do the words Archie vs. Predator bring to mind; epic battle or unmitigated slaughter? For me, I would have to say the latter. If you like the old horror movies where the monster picks off the kids one by one, this might just be up your alley. The book is written by Alex de Campi (check our her website), an author with experience in a wide variety of genres so she is a natural fit for this horror/comedy mashup. Fernando Ruiz gives us great visuals with spot on versions of Predator and the gang and makes it all work together. The gang is on spring break down in Costa Rica and the hot weather makes it perfect for a visit from your favorite camouflaged warrior. The book starts with a cat fight between Betty and Veronica which is worth the price of admission by itself. Who will get the axe first? My money is on Jughead. The Tithe #1 ($3.99, Top Cow Productions & Image Comics): The Tithe is a book that had not crossed my radar until I was going through all the releases for this week. First issues often catch my eye because it is difficult to recommend the 15th issue of a book that someone hasn’t been reading previously. The book features a group of modern day Robin Hoods that rob from the rich and give the money to charities. In this case, the rich are mega-churches (that is what caught my attention). The thieves are hackers and are pursued by two FBI agents that must do their job even though they admire those they seek to apprehend. The book is written by Matt Hawkins (Top Cow President) with art by Rahsan Ekedal. I wonder if the story was inspired by this story about the theft of $600,000 from Joel Osteen’s megachurch. Don’t worry about them too much though, that was the money the received from one weekend.

Thor #7 ($3.99, Marvel Comics) We have talked about the female Thor a number of times so I won’t spell it all out for you here but in brief, there is a new person wielding the power of Mjolnir and it is a woman. Verily, even the omnipotent Odin knows not her true identity (sorry). Besides evil frost giants and the like, this new Thor must also face off against the Destroyer sent by the All-Father himself. That isn’t good. Writer (and Kansas Citian) Jason Aaron continues to craft this tale drawn by Russell Dauterman into something truly spectacular and it is one of my favorite reads each month. Oh, also no need to worry as everyone’s favorite Odinson is still running around in the story as well. He did sorta lose an arm though but he got a shiny new metal one. I wonder if he and the Winter Soldier go to counseling for that together? You can check out the preview over at Comic Vine.
