On this episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, the guys sit down with Chris Jackson, the promoter of Planet Comicon, the largest comic book and pop culture convention in Kansas City.
Chris explains his background in comics, dating back to the Silver Age of Spider-Man comics, and we force him to choose between Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. We get into the origins of Planet Comicon, and the growth that it has experienced since the first show back in 1999. We touch on the challenges of putting a show together – from finding an open weekend on the convention center calendar vs. competing against other conventions already on a calendar. Finally, we talk about the various guests and creators of the show this year. For all the names that we did mention, there are so much more that we didn’t mention. So do yourself a favor and go to www.planetcomicon.com to get the full list of guests and creators.
Planet Comicon is March 13-15, 2015, at Bartle Hall, 301 West 13th St, Kansas City, MO 64105. The public show entrance is located on the south side of 13th Street between Broadway and Central. Tickets may be ordered on the website or may be purchased at the Bartle Hall box office. Hours for the show are:
- Friday, March 13, Noon – 7:00 PM
- Saturday March 14, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Sunday, March 15 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
A big thank you to Chris for not only being on this podcast (especially given how busy he is right now!) but also for his support for the Hero Initiative. Cullen, John, and Jerry (as well as many others) have volunteered their time at nearly all of the prior Planet Comicon conventions to run a table to raise awareness and collect donations for the Hero Initiative. We will be at Planet Comicon again this year, so come find us at our table, say hi, and learn more about the Hero Initiative.
