On this week’s episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we begin our summer reading program with the Wolverine mini-series from 1982. This is one of Marvel’s earliest mini-series, and has stayed in print in some form or fashion over the last four decades.
Written by Chris Claremont with art by Frank Miller, Wolverine has Logan traveling to Japan to try to win back Mariko but those plans quickly go off of the high-speed train rails. This series showcases both creators’ strengths, making for a memorable story that stands the test of time.
We are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Rick Zinn who suggested the Wolverine series to us.
Cullen got to attend the Washington State Summer Con last weekend, and he put together a fine collection of autographs and sketches that he is auctioning off on eBay. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the Hero Initiative, so please consider placing a bid on either piece he assembled.

On this week’s episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are taking a look at representation in comics with the celebration of Pride Month. Representation is important, and there were times when comics got it right, and more times when comics got it wrong. Whether is Northstar, Harley & Ivy, or any other characters past or present, we have a free-form conversation talking about the the characters that so many people identify with.
And while we did not address this on the show, let’s put this back out as a reminder as we slowly return to conventions across the country. Whether we are set us as the podcast or volunteering for the Hero Initiative, our booths are always a safe space for anyone. If you see us on the show floor and need assistance, just grab us and we will do what we can. We are here for you.
Speaking of conventions, looks like Cullen will be the first one returning to a full con next weekend with the Washington State Summer Con. They have a great list of modern and veteran comic creators, and they will all get the full Stapleton experience at the show in mid-June. (On the off-chance that Al Milgrom happens to be reading this post, let us go ahead and apologize now for anything Cullen may say or do during his fanboy meeting with you in ten days.)
Of course, we do have to talk about comics, especially with our Pick 3 choices sponsored by Clint’s Comics. We have three great books chosen for this week, including John’s pick which ties back in with this week’s theme.
We have a return of our trivia question, but we are not giving away just one prize. Try FOUR! Seriously, answer early and get first pick of the loot.
Jerry got to watch some of the new Sweet Tooth series on Netflix – check it out NOW if you haven’t already. Especially if Disney + crashes with the launch of Loki today.
