The beginning of March is coming in like a lion with these four selections! We get rebellious leaders, sibling consternation, past secrets revealed, and the guy that used to wear green pixie boots racing into the most exciting part of his solo career yet! This is promising to be another great new comic book day. There are only a few more weeks of winter weather ahead of us so grab your stack of comics and hunker down with some four-color heat to keep you warm!
Princess Leia #1 ($4.99, Marvel Comics): As a part of Disney acquiring LucasFilm we’re getting new Star Wars comics as well movies. (YAY!) The Worst Comic Podcast Ever! has selected Star Wars to be our book of the year, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t excited about the other offerings as well. Last month we saw the first issue to an ongoing Darth Vader book, and this month we’re treated to the first issue of a limited series about our favorite rebel princess. The super team of Mark Waid and Terry Dodson bring the excitement about a rebel without a home. Get your buns into a store and pick this one up! (12 + yrs)
The Amazing World of Gumball #8 ($3.99, Boom! Studios): One of the things I love about this book is when I read it with my four year old she engages and tries to read along because she is already invested in the characters and narratives thanks to the T.V. episodes. Another reason why we buy this book is because the smart writing we find in the show is extended to this comic, and every story is self-contained within each issue. In this issue Anais tries to set aside a weekend without her brothers bothering her, but she fails to plan for the usual chaos following Gumball and the havoc he creates in her world. (All ages)
X-Men #25 ($3.99, Marvel Comics): Remember the uproar and angst over an all female super hero team when A-Force was announced last month? Well, there has been an all female team book at Marvel for the last two years and it’s called X-Men. For two years this team, (Storm, Psylocke, Jubilee, Rogue, Kitty Pride, and Rachel Grey), have been making up the baddest group of super mutants on the planet. And the current author on the book is none other than G. Willow Wilson, (Ms. Marvel), who will take some of these characters with her to form A-Force later this spring. This issue finds the heroes on a rescue mission to save Storm and Psylocke uncovers a troubling part of her past. (12 + yrs)
Grayson #8 ($2.99, DC): After fighting Midnighter and The Fist of Cain, Dick finds himself tracking down Mister Minos just before he betrays Spyral and releases the secret identities of Earth’s heroes. This is a great book with an unbelievably cool spy vibe and non-stop action. This is not your Father’s Robin! (12 + yrs)
