Episode 058 – For August 19, 2015 – Star Wars #8 and True Confessions!

A long time ago....

A long time ago….

For the record, two out of three isn’t bad! Good thing, too, because that is what you are getting on the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! tonight. Cullen and Jerry are running the show tonight, while John handles parent duties with Back to School nights. Does that mean the podcast is shorter by 33 percent? Heck, no! In fact, it just means that the other two get to talk an extra … hold on … divide the 33% by 2 … round up the 7 …. dang, math is hard without John around. He better be back next week.

But no one is here to listen to a math podcast. You want to hear about COMICS! Ohhh Yeahh! In this episode, Cullen and Jerry discuss:

  • Star Wars #8 – Jason Aaron’s story does not skip a beat with the addition of artist Stuart Immonen to the book.
  • Weirdworld #8 – This book gets better and better. It may be a five-issue series, but it could end up being our 2015 book of the year.
  • Panty Vigilante #1 – Kansas City’s Erica Batton delivers a solid hit with the debut issue in print of her webcomic series. Check out pantyvigilante.ink for more details.

Next up, it’s time you find out some of the guys’ most guarded secrets, as we share our True Confessions. What’s a famous run of books we have never read? What series do we think is overrated? And what is our comic book guilty pleasures? How we got through this segment without mentioning Nic Cage is a mystery! If you listen closely, you will find a FREE GIFT CARD offer mentioned in the podcast. Want to win? Reply back to us, via the blog, Facebook, and/or Twitter, with your comic book guilty pleasure. So simple to do, we expect to be flooded with replies. But only one can win, and you can only win by replying. Contest ends August 31!

We take a moment to reflect on the losses to the Batman family this week, with the tragic accident involving the Beltway Batman, and the loss of THE Batgirl, Yvonne Craig. For both of them, the costume and cape served as an inspiration for others. We want to challenge each of you to find a way to inspire others in your life, and to give back to your (comic book) community.

Finally we look ahead to next week. It will be all about Jack Kirby! We’ve got some special interviews lined up throughout the week. We cannot wait to see the incredible artwork that comes out of the Wake Up and Draw challenge next Friday. That same day, which would have been The King’s 98th birthday, we encourage you to Read Comics in Public! Before all of that gets going, please check out the Kirby4Heroes Campaign, organized by the granddaughter of Jack Kirby. Once again, that campaign is looking to raise funds for the Hero Initiative, a non-profit that raises funds for comic book creators in time of financial need. Cullen, Jerry, and John, along with many of our friends, have volunteered our time at many conventions for the last decade helping to share the Hero Initiative’s mission, and help raise some money along the way.
